    GETTING STARTED LOCATION Place your VTech 17850 within 2 metres of the mains power socket and telephone socket so that the cables will reach. Make sure it is at least 1 metre away from other electrical appliances to avoid interference. Your VTech 17850 works by sending radio signals between the base and handset.

    SETTING UP Telephone base installation Install the telephone base as shown below. Make sure you clicked the wall mount bracket securely into the mounting slots before plugging in the adapter and telephone line cord.   • Page 14 Handset batteries installation 1. Plug the battery connector securely into the socket inside the handset battery compartment. Insert the supplied battery as indicated. 2. Align the cover lat against the battery compartment, then slide it upwards until it clicks into place.
  • Page 15 3. Charge the handset by placing it face forward in the telephone base or charger. The CHARGE light on the handset is on during charging. CHARGE light Note: The display of your handset may go blank for a short time when placing back on charge. This is the normal operation of your handset.

    POWER-FAIL BACKUP MODE Power-fail mode allows your telephone system to function in the event of a power outage. The telephone system uses stored power from the handset’s battery to operate. After the power goes out, if there is already a handset with enough charge placed in the telephone base, the telephone system enters battery backup mode automatically.
  • Page 17 Power-fail backup mode operation During power-fail backup mode, the telephone base, answering system and all MobileConnect related features will be disabled. The operating time is subject to the battery level of the handset placed in the telephone base and the actual usage. For optimal performance, you are not recommended to use the handset placed in the telephone base when this mode is on.

    INSTALLATION OPTIONS Your telephone base is ready for tabletop use. If you want to mount your telephone on a wall, follow the steps below to connect the telephone base with a standard dual-stud telephone wall mounting plate. You may need a professional to install the mounting plate.
  • Page 19 3. Plug the telephone line cord (or DSL ilter) into the wall jack. Plug the power adapter into a power outlet not controlled by a wall switch. 4. Align the holes on the wall-mount bracket with the standard wall plate and slide the wall-mount bracket down until it locks securely.

    HOME. If you hear a Check for a dial tone by pressing dial tone, the installation is successful. WARNING Do not place your VTech 17850 in the bathroom or other humid areas. IMPORTANT The base station must be plugged into the mains power socket at all times.

    DATE AND TIME If you have subscribed to a Network Calling Number Display service, the date and time are set automatically with each incoming call. The date and time are recorded with each answering machine message you receive. If you have not subscribed to a Network Calling Number Display Service you can set the date and time manually.

    MOBILECONNECT Your new VTech 17850 telephone system with MobileConnect wireless technology has the following features: • Pair up to 2 devices (mobile phones or headsets) with the telephone base • Connect a MobileConnect enable headset for making and receiving home calls.

    Below are some terms used in this user’s manual to help you become familiar with using your devices and your new VTech telephone system. Active devices - the Device list has two active slots for two mobile phones, or one mobile phone and one headset.
  • Page 39 Discoverable mode - before a device can be paired, it must be set to this mode. When pairing your mobile phone, the telephone base is set to this mode. Depending on the mobile phone manufacturer, this mode is sometimes referred to as Find Me or Visibility. Paired devices - The devices (mobile phones or headsets) that have shared registration information with the telephone base.

    MOBILECONNECT SETUP To use a Mobile phone with your VTech 17850, you must irst pair and connect it with the telephone base. All VTech 17850 handsets can be used to make or answer on the mobile phone line. MobileConnect wireless technology operates within a short range (9 metres).

    You can download phonebook entries to your VTech 17850 telephone system via MobileConnect wireless technology. Each downloaded entry is stored in the VTech 17850 phonebook with up to 30 digits for each phone number and 15 characters for each name. Before downloading the phonebook, make sure the mobile phone is paired and connected to the VTech 17850.

    INTERRUPTION TO PHONEBOOK DOWNLOAD If you are downloading a phonebook from a mobile phone and the phone receives a call, the download process stops, and the telephone base and all the handsets display Download fail. However, the handset locator paging tone and any sound-generating operations initiated by users, such as making calls using the speakerphone or setting ringer volume, will sound as normal.
