Validity
This document is valid for the following device types from firmware version 2.04.03.R:
• SB1.5-1VL-40 (Sunny Boy 1.5)

1.2
Structure
This document is divided into a language-specific and a language-neutral section.
The language-specific section contains general and safety-relevant information on the product,
which is listed in various languages consecutively. The language-specific section is identified by
registers in the page margin.
The language-neutral section describes the steps necessary for installing and commissioning the
product in graphic form. The language-neutral section follows the language-specific section and is
identified by the gray page margin. Perform the actions illustrated graphically in the language-
neutral section in the specified order and observe all information.

Target group
The tasks described in this document must only be performed by qualified persons. Qualified
persons must have the following skills:

2 Safety
2.1
Intended Use
The Sunny Boy is a transformerless PV inverter which converts the direct current of the PV array to
grid-compliant alternating current and feeds it into the utility grid.
The product is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
The product must only be operated with PV arrays of protection class II in accordance with
IEC 61730, application class A. The PV modules must be compatible with this product.
PV modules with a high capacity to ground must only be used if their coupling capacity does not
exceed 900 nF (for information on how to calculate the coupling capacity, see the Technical
Information "Leading Leakage Currents" at www.SMA-Solar.com).
