  • Page 11: Dives In Especially Cold Water (<3 °C)

    Dives in especially cold water (<3 °C) JACK can also be used for dives in especially cold water (<3 °C). However, exposure to especially low temperatures can negatively affect the voltage remaining in the battery, decreasing the computer's burn-time. If you dive in especially cold water, the battery voltage can run out much faster than normal.

    The JACK computer features a Sleep Mode function. After 1 minute of complete immobility (such as when set aside for the night), JACK will turn off its screen automatically to save battery.     Watch Menu The watch menu contains all settings not directly related to diving. To access the Watch Menu, unlock JACK by pressing any button, and press button from the watch screen. Press buttons to scroll through the menu items, and press to select the desired option.

    COMPASS (Compass Settings) Compass settings can be changed from the COMPASS Menu. JACK DECLIN: Declination is used to compensate for the difference between unlocked geographic north and magnetic north.     Dive menu The Dive menu contains all the settings directly related to the dive. To access the Dive Menu, unlock the JACK by pressing any button, and from the watch screen press the button to access the dive screen. Then press the button to access the dive menu.

    Weather Forecast JACK The weather forecast is based on monitoring atmospheric pressure in the unlocked previous 18 hours using the built-in barometer. For a reliable weather forecast, no changes in elevation should be made. Otherwise the change in atmospheric pressure due to the change in altitude could introduce inaccuracies into the 12:30 weather forecast.

  • Page 40: Jack During The Dive

    JACK DURING THE DIVE JACK automatically activates dive mode when the diver moves past 1.5 m in depth. The factory setting for JACK is in Freedive mode, however you can select the mode to be activated in the DIVE SET 1 menu.
  • Page 41: Reducing The Risk Of Oedema / Hemoptysis

    During a freedive, hemoptysis is typically caused by a rupture of capillaries in the lungs that have been subjected to too much stress without having first performed the appropriate warmups. To reduce the risk of pulmonary oedema, JACK recommends which dives to take first in order to “warm up” the capillaries in the lungs depending on the depth you want to reach, or the “comfort” depth (depth you can reach without special effort).
  • Page 42: Reducing The Risk Of Taravana

    • Hypoxia (Insufficient oxygen in the body). • Dehydration. Taking into consideration all the possible causes that can trigger the syndrome, after every dive JACK suggests the minimum “Recovery time” (RECOVERY) before beginning the next dive to reduce the risk of Taravana. The variables can be set from the FREE SET menu in JACK (see dedicated section in this manual).

    Hydration alert On the basis of the number of dives taken, their duration, and the depths reached, the computer will display the HYDRATE alert to remind the freediver to hydrate (even when the body has not yet noticed the need). There is no need to press any button after having rehydrated.
