  • Page 3: The Outdoor Unit (Boiler)

The Outdoor Unit (Boiler) It is important to situate the unit within an open area with a good airflow, it is a good idea to choose a location that is not going to be blocked by plants, animals or anything else that may obstruct the airflow. Another factor to take into account is the mounting surface, make sure it is a flat, solid surface capable of withstanding the weight of the heat pump.

  • Page 6 The heat pump changes the speed of the compressor to alter the output of the heat pump, much like adjusting the gas in a boiler. Samsung’s units can alter their output down to as low as 10% and has removed the cycling process.
  • Page 7 Do not attempt to use a standard non-heat pump cylinder as this will not work. The legionella function will be programmed into the Samsung controller to run once every week along with a daily function to ensure that the hot water is always up to temperature.
  • Page 8: Fast Connect

This will control the pump and then send a signal to the unit to operate. The Samsung heat pump will adjust accordingly in a fully adjustable weather compensation mode and it will adjust the temperature of the water to match the ambient temperature.

This will need to be correctly sized for the duty and the flow and return temperatures of the system.

Multi Fuels Buffer Tank with coil Pump HP Pump Z1 Stat set to 55°C Other sources into coil Operation • The temperature of the hot water is controlled with the cylinder sensor and the supplied controller. • The controller has a built in time clock control and has both daily and weekly sterilisation functions for legionella. • The system is able to be setup as open vented or pressurised. • The coil within the cylinder must be designed for use with a heat pump with a surface area of at least 2.5 m². • A guideline for sizing the cylinder would allow 55 litres of water per person each day. • It is recommended that the heat pump is sized so that it is able to reheat the cylinder within an hour. • As with most cylinders, it is possible to connect a PV system to the immersion heaters to reduce costs. A battery storage system is also a great way to help with this. • The heating system is controlled via a thermostat / time clock that is wired back to the internal control board (MIM). • There is not a limitation to the number of heating zones that can be connected to this setup. • This setup shows one heating zone. • Each heating zone will be controlled by its own thermostat or timer, this will operate it’s own zone valve which will then control the pump. This in turn will create the run signal for the heat pump to operate in heating mode.

  • Page 24: What Comes With The Unit

What comes with the unit? The first thing that you will see when you open the box (unless you open it upside down) should be the sensor cables. The blue sensor cable is used to measure the temperature inside the cylinder and connects into a yellow socket on the control board labelled CNS042. The sensor should be located in the top half of the cylinder above the immersion heater.
  • Page 25: Start-Up Procedure

Start-Up Procedure Before connecting the heat pump to the system, a thorough system flush is highly recommended in line with the Building Regulations for England and Wales, Part L, 2006. Using a power flusher, fill the system with a mixture of water and 25-30% glycol, there is no pressure sensor in the unit so it can operate from open vented to 3 bar max.
  • Page 26: Field Settings

Field Settings The field settings are used in order to set/alter the way the unit will operate, each system/setup will have different field settings. To setup the timer you will need to follow the below steps;...

Checking flow rate before starting the heat pump The flow rate through the system is high and must maintain this at all times. If the flow rate drops to low E911 will show on the screen. If there is a separator in the system i.e a buffer, the flow rate is much easier to achieve and maintain. If there is not a separator then there will need to be extra tests carried out.

  • Page 32: Handover Of The System

Handover of the System Leave the following pages with the Homeowner Thank you for buying a Samsung EHS heat pump system, your Samsung heat pump heats the house and hot water cylinder much like a normal fossil fuel boiler, however, there are a couple of differences which you should take notice of. The installer of the system should have provided you with a room stat to control the temperature, or if you have underfloor heating you will have a stat in each room. To turn on your heating, you only need to turn up your thermostat. To turn of your heating, turn it back down. Once the unit starts up it will take time to get to temperature, it is not instant. Within 10 minutes you should feel the radiators beginning to warm up. Weather compensation and water law: The temperatures of the radiators will not be what you may be used to if you used to have boiler, as well as this the heat pump will run in what is known as weather compensation mode.
  • Page 33: General Advice

Hot Water The temperature of the cylinder is controlled by the Samsung controller, this is setup to maintain the temperature of the water between 43°C and 50°C. As hot water is used, the heat pump will be constantly monitoring the temperature inside the cylinder, the hot water heating has priority over space heating. If the cylinder falls by 5°C from the setpoint, the heat pump will automatically switch to hot water heating.

Maintenance of Monobloc Systems The Samsung EHS units should be maintained at least once per year to comply with the warranty terms and RHI. Maintenance procedure To start the maintenance procedure, stop the unit, clean the dirt filter within manufacturer’s recommendations and replace.
  • Page 37: Problems And Faults

One thing to check is that the heat pump turns off when all the stats are turned down or off. When the unit is set up it should have AU on the Samsung controller meaning that the heat pump will only operate when it receives a run signal back to B22 or B24 in the control box.
