Troubleshooting

If sewing difficulties occur, make sure instructions are correctly followed.
If a problem still exists, reminders below may help.
Problem

Sewing machine stops
rotating during sewing.
* When handwheel can be
normally turned by hand.
Sewing machine will not run
even when it has started.
Sewing machine will not start
even when start/stop button is
pressed. (Lamp lights up.)
Needle breaks.
Sewing machine produces
too low/high operating noise.
Fabric is not fed.
Needle cannot be threaded.
* Needle threading hook does
not rotate.
Needle threading hook does
not enter needle eyelet.
Threading lever does not
return to home position and
machine fails to rotate.
* Threading hook remains in
needle eyelet and fails to
return to home position.
Cause (Reason)
Low-speed sewing is per-
formed for an extended
period of time.
* Motor power is automatically
turned off so as to prevent
motor from overheating.
Needle thread has run out.
Bobbin winder shaft shifts to
left.
Lever is not lowered at time of
buttonholing.
Thread retaining plate cover
is opened.
Presser foot is improperly installed.
As a result, needle comes in
contact with presser foot.
Sewing machine is started
though needle has come off
and dropped in hook.
Thin needle is used to sew
heavy-weight fabric.
Needle is not fully inserted in
needle clamp.
Needle clamp screw is not se-
curely tightened.
Presser foot used does not
match patterns selected.
Dust has accumulated in feed
dog.
Thread waste has
accumulated in hook.
Stitch length is set to 0 (zero).
Soft fabric such as towel is
used.
Drop-feed knob is set to right
position.
Needle is not raised.
* When needle is not in its
upper position, hook does not
rotate to ensure safety.
Needle is not fully inserted in
needle clamp.
Sewing machine is rotated by
mistake with threading lever
is in lower position (during
threading).
Action to be taken
Turn off power switch. Wait
for a while (approximately 20
minutes). Then, safety device
will be reset to enable normal
operation.
Properly thread machine
head and press start button.
Move bobbin winder shaft
fully to left until it will go no
further.
Lower buttonhole lever.
Close thread retaining cover.
Replace presser foot that
matches stitch pattern
selected.
Remove needle from hook.
Check relation among fabric,
sewing thread and sewing
needle.
Check how needle is
attached.
Securely tighten needle
clamp screw.
Check relation between
pattern selected and presser
foot used.
Perform maintenance of ma-
chine.
Clean up sewing machine.
Re-select pattern, and stitch
length that matches pattern
will be specified.
Set stitch length to 3 to 4.
Set knob to left position.
Turn handwheel to raise
needle.
Check how needle is
installed.
Rotate handwheel slightly
counterclockwise (direction
opposite to that of normal
sewing).
