volt,
capacitor
and
the
protection circuit
shown
in
Figure 4-2
in
series between
the
OUTPUT
connector and
the input
of
a
preamplifier (Gain
=
100).
Connect
the pre-
amplifier output to the input
of
an
oscilloscope.

Set the
POWER
and
HIGH
VOLTAGE
switches
to
ON
and observe the
ripple.
The
ripple should be
less than 1.0 millivolt
peak-to-peak
(see Figure
4-5).
(Oscilloscope display should
indicate less
than 100 millivolts
peak-to-peak,
and are
typically
20 to 40 millivolts
peak-to-peak).
