If your oven has the automatic simmer fea-
ture, you have extra versatility in micro-
waving. This setting lets you slow-cook foods
for extra moistness,extra tenderness.It's like
having an appliance-within-an-appliance!
The
automatic simmer setting brings food rapidly
to a simmer, then holds the simmer at about
180°Ffor as long as you want. Perfectfor old-
-fashioned pot roasts, hearty stews, chili,
baked beans,even mulleddrinks. To automat-
ically simmer, ym.I can use any microwave-
proof casseroles. But do not use a lid.
Instead, stretch plastic wrap.over the top of
the casserole. Gather the wrap loosely
around the probe$o. a llowsteamto escape.

1. Insert$heprobein liquidin bottomof dish.
(As liquid simmers,steam forms to cook and
tenderizefood.) Coverthe dish.
2. AttacHthe probeto the oven. (See probe
instructions.)
3. Touch automaticsimmerpad. The signal
light on the display above autoi'natic simmer
pad lights up.

Don'tselecta time.The oven will be cook-
ing by temperature,not time.
5. Don't select a temperatureor a Power
Level.The automatic simmer feature is auto-
matically pre-set for the correct temperature
and PowerLevelfor automaticsimmering.
6. PushSTART.The inside light comes on. A
fan starts.
The automatic simmer feature lets you slow-
cook foods which need long, gentle cooking
to tenderize or develop flavor. Food is
brought to a simmer rapidly, then the temper-
ature probe maintains simmering at about
180° for
as
long as you want. Temperatureof
food is not shown on the read-out during
cooking. However,if you wish to check tem-
perature, touch automatic simmer pad; ten?-
Reratureof food and Power level being used
'will show on the rea&out as long as-pad is
touched.

Use any microwave-proof casserole for
automatic simmer feature. Insert probe in
midd{eof casseroleso that the tip is resting in
liquid in the bottom of the dish. Since liquid is
necessaryfor this function, steam tenderizes
and brings out the full flavor of the dish.

Simmeras long as yourslow-cookrecipe
calls for. Five hours, six, even ten hours. The
oven won't shut off until you touch the
CLEAF1/OFFpad. (You can interrupt micro-
waving by opening the oven door. But it re-
sumes
when you close the door and press
START,)
Do not use a M on the microwave-proofcas-
serole that you choose. Instead, use stretch
plastic wrap over the top of the casserole,
Cover tightly with plastic wrap, arranging
/oose/y around the probe to allow steam to
escape.
