have failed or in which they have a restricted pass, except in the case of
candidates for programmes offered through the College of Estate Management
who have the right to be re-examined on two occasions following the first
attempt.
For progression purposes, the mark to be used in calculating the aggregate is the
higher of the mark achieved at re-examination and the mark achieved at the first
attempt.
The Part 2 mark to be used in determining the classification is the higher of (a)
the first attempt mark or (b) the lower of 40 and the mark achieved in the re-
examination.
Candidates who fail in the Final Examination for a Bachelor's or other
undergraduate degree normally have the right to be re-examined on one further
occasion at the next opportunity, except in the case of candidates for programmes
offered through the College of Estate Management who have the right to be re-
examined on two occasions following the first attempt. Candidates who have
failed in the Final Examination will not normally be eligible for Honours.
Candidates who fail in an examination for a Masters programme have the right to
be re-examined on one further occasion at the next opportunity, subject to the
provisions of the Marking Criteria and Classification Framework for Taught Postgraduate
Programmes, except in the case of candidates for programmes offered through the
College of Estate Management who have the right to be re-examined on two
occasions following the first attempt. In respect of candidates admitted in
Autumn Term 2003 and thereafter, marks achieved at re-examination are capped
at 50 for classification purposes.
Candidates who fail the Foundation Degree normally have the right to be re-
examined on one further occasion at the next opportunity in those modules
which they have failed. The mark to be used in calculating the overall result
following re-examination is the higher of (a) the first attempt mark or (b) the
lower of 40 and the mark achieved in the re-examination.
Candidates are responsible for registering for re-examinations and for payment of
the appropriate re-examination fee.
All elements which contribute to the re-assessment mark for a module should be
available for re-assessment, except in those cases where re-assessment would
entail unacceptable risk to clients (as stipulated in the following paragraph).
In accordance with Ordinances IV(4)(e), (10)(d), and (18), VII (4), VIII (4), and IX (5)
and (11), a candidate may not be re-examined in any practical or similar
assessment in a programme related to a professional qualification where the re-
examination would in the view of the Faculty Examiners entail unacceptable risk
for the clients involved.
