Troubleshooting guide

Before requesting service, make the following checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the
remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, consult your dealer for instructions.
(HDMI function is only available for SC-NC9.)
■ Power
No power.
The unit is automatically
switched to the standby
mode
■ Operation
No response when any
buttons are pressed.
No operations can be
performed with the remote
control.
Play doesn't start (or stops
immediately) when you
press [q, DVD/CD].
It takes time before play
starts.
Cannot select random or
program play.
Folders deeper than the
eighth layer on a data disc
are not displayed correctly.
You have forgotten your
ratings password.
Reset all the Setup settings to
the factory preset.
Cannot eject disc.
The VIERA Link "HDAVI
Control" function does not
respond.
■ Menu
No menu play.
Playback control menu

Insert the AC mains lead securely.
The unit was switched to standby by the sleep timer or auto-off function.
Some operations may be prohibited by the disc.
The unit may not be operating properly due to lightning, static electricity or
some other external factor. Turn the unit OFF and then back to ON.
Alternatively, press [^] to switch the unit to standby mode, disconnect the
AC mains lead, and then reconnect it.
If playing DivX VOD content, refer to the website where you
DivX
purchased it. (Example: www.divx.com/vod)
Check that the batteries are installed correctly.
The batteries are depleted: replace them with new ones.
Point the remote control at the remote control sensor and operate.
Condensation has formed: wait 1 to 2 hours for it to evaporate.
This unit cannot play discs other than the ones listed in these operating
instructions.
The disc may be dirty and may require cleaning.
Ensure that the disc is loaded with the label of the side to be played facing
right.
Check that the DVD-RAM has something recorded on it.
Play may take time to begin when an MP3 track has still picture data. Even
after the track starts, the correct play time will not be displayed.
This is normal on DivX video.
You cannot select random or program play with some DVD-Video.

Folders deeper than the eighth layer are displayed as the eighth layer.
While stopped and "DVD/CD" is the source, press and hold [g] on the

= [ 10]
on the remote control for about 3 seconds until "Initialised"
disappears from the television. Turn the unit off and on again.
All settings will return to the default values.
The unit may not operate properly if the disc is damaged or dirty.
Press [^] and after the display disappears, wait a few seconds, then press
[^] again and eject the disc.
Depending on the condition of the stereo system or the connected
equipment, it may be necessary to repeat the same operation so that the
function can work correctly.
This function is dependent on software availability.
Press [g] twice and then press [q, DVD/CD].

Select "DVD/CD" as the source.
Cancel program and random play.
This function is dependent on software availability.
Display the subtitle.
Change the position of the subtitles with "Subtitle Position" in the Display
Menu.
This function is dependent on software availability.
Try selecting from the disc's menu if one is available.
