3. Install the control rod to the drive lever and the
neutral/parking brake lock. Secure the control rod with
a clevis pin and a hairpin cotter (Figure 51).
4. Check the operation of the control rod. If you need to
adjust it, remove the hairpin cotter and the clevis pin
that secure the control rod to the drive levers.
5. Adjust the control rod length by repeating the previous
steps.

Servicing the Cutting Blades

To ensure a superior quality of cut, keep the blades sharp.
For convenient sharpening and replacement, you may want
to keep extra blades on hand.
WARNING
A worn or damaged blade can break, and a piece
of the blade could be thrown into the operator's
or bystander's area, resulting in serious personal
injury or death.
• Inspect the blade periodically for wear or
damage.
• Replace a worn or damaged blade.
Preparing to Inspect or Service the
Blades
Park the machine on a level surface, disengage the
blade-control lever and set the parking brake. Turn the
ignition key to the off position. Remove the key and
disconnect the spark-plug wire(s) from the spark plug(s).
