4. Download the Win32 Disk Imager tool from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/.
5. Run the imager tool and follow the on-screen instructions to create the
recovery shim.
Note: After using the recovery shim, if you want to restore normal usage of the
USB storage device, you will need to format the device. Otherwise, you cannot
use the storage space on the device.
Enabling or disabling the write-protect function
By default, the on-board Read-Only Memories (ROMs) are set to be
write-protected. Before refreshing the Chromebox firmware, set the ROMs to be
unprotected by disabling the write-protect function on the system board.
To enable or disable the write-protect function, do the following:
1. Turn off the computer.
2. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and
the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and
disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.
3. Remove the front cover. See "Removing the front cover" on page 83.
