Inspecting the Belts

Inspect all belts every 100 hours.
Check belts for cracks, frayed edges, burn marks, or any
other damage. Replace damaged belts.

Replacing the Mower Belt

Squealing when the belt is rotating, blades slipping when
cutting grass, frayed belt edges, burn marks and cracks are
signs of a worn mower belt. Replace the mower belt if any
of these conditions are evident.
Note: Remove the drive belts first if the mower belt needs
to be replaced. Refer to Replacing the Drive Belts on page
50.
1. Disengage the PTO, move the motion control levers to
the neutral locked position and set the parking brake.
2. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
3. Remove the belt covers (Fig. 72).
4. Pull on the spring loaded idler arm to loosen the belt
tension.
5. Remove the mower belt from the mower pulleys and
the top pulley of the three stacked pulleys
(Fig. 71 and 74).
6. Install the new belt around the mower pulleys and the
top pulley of the three stacked pulleys
(Fig. 71 and 74).
7. Pull on the spring loaded idler arm to loosen the belt
tension and align the mower belt onto the idler pulley
(Fig. 71).
8. Install the belt covers and close the latches (Fig. 72).

Replacing the Drive Belts

Squealing when the belt is rotating, blades slipping when

signs of a worn mower belt. Replace the mower belt if any
of these conditions are evident.
Note: Remove the top drive belt first if the bottom drive
belt needs to be replaced.
1. Disengage the PTO, move the motion control levers to
the neutral locked position and set the parking brake.
2. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
3. Remove the rear engine panel (Fig. 73).

4. Pull on the spring loaded idler pulley to loosen the belt
tension (Fig. 74).
5. Remove the mower belt from the top pulley of the
three stacked pulleys (Fig. 71 and 74).
6. Remove the worn drive belt.
