the
threads
in the alumi-
num cylinder head.
The
firing
order
is
1-3-
4-2
(cylinder number
1 is closest
to
the fire-
wall).
Windshield wipers
Inspect and clean the rubber blades of the
windshield
at
regular
intervals.
Methyl
al-
cohol is recommended for cleaning. If the
blades show
signs
of wear, they should
be
replaced. 400 mm. (16 in.) blades
are
specified.
Changing
the windshield wiper blades
Lift the wiper
arm.
Depress the plastic clip
(1)
and
remove the complete wiper blade
(2)
(see
illustration).
Free the rubber from
the
retainer (see illust-
ration) by pressing together the two shiny
metal pieces
and
twisting the rubber. The
rubber can now be withdrawn through the

other retainers. To fit the rubber, slide it
through the
four
retainers and then tighten
it
so
that the
retainer
at
one
end
engages
the
recess
in
the blade rubber.
Replacement blades
are also available as a
complete insert.
Washers
The reservoir holds 6.5 U.S. quarts. Fill up
with
suitable anti-freeze
washer fluid
.
Plain
water will
freeze in the winter. The
spray nozzles
consist of
rotatable balls. To
adjust the direction ofthe jet, insert
a
needle
in
the
hole ofthe nozzle.
Headlights, bulbs, fuses
Headlights
Adjustment of the headlights is made by
means of two knobs
at
the back of each
headlight unit, accessible from the engine
compartment.
The higher knob is for
verti-
cal
adjustment
and the
lower
one for
lateral
adjustment.
It
is
extremely
important that the head-
lights
be correctly adjusted to
achieve the
best possible lighting
effect
without
any
risk
of
blinding
oncoming
drivers. All
ad-
justments should be done by an
authorized
Saab dealer,
according
to specifications
and/or
applicable
state laws. Special head-
light
aiming equipment
is required to do
the job properly.
