Options – Brakes
Drum Brakes (7.13)
Drum brakes permit safe and
convenient braking for an atten-
dant. They can also be set with the
aid of a locking lever (1) to prevent
rolling. This lever must snap
audibly into place. Drum brakes
are not dependent on the aid of air
pressure inside the tyres. Your
wheelchair cannot be moved when
the drum brakes are set.
CAUTION:
Drum brakes should only be adjusted by
authorized dealers.
One Hand Wheel Locks (7.16)
Your wheelchair is equipped with two sets of
wheel locks, that operate from the left or the
right side. They are applied directly against the
tyres. To engage, press the wheel-lock lever
forward against the stop (fig. 1). To release the
wheel, pull the lever back to the original positi-
on.
Holding power will decrease with:
• Worn tyre tread
• Tyre pressure that is too low
• Wet tyres
• Improperly adjusted wheel locks.
The wheel locks have not been
designed to be used as brakes for
a moving wheelchair. The wheel
locks should therefore never be
used to brake a moving
wheelchair. Always use the hand-
rims for braking. Make sure that
the interval between the tyres and
wheel locks complies with given
specifications. To readjust, loosen
screw and set the appropriate
interval.
Tighten screw (see the page on
torque).
CAUTION:
After each adjustment of the rear wheels, check
the interval to the wheel locks and readjust if
necessary.
Mounting the wheel lock too close toward the
wheel, will result in a higher effort to operate.
This might cause the brake lever extension to
break! Leaning on to the brake lever extension
while transfering will cause the lever to break!
Splashing water from tyres might cause the
wheel lock to malfunction.

Suspension system

(7.17)
The function of the suspension
system is determined by the buffer
elements (1). Sunrise Medical
offers a varied range of elements
depending on the weight of the
user.
To replace the elements, undo the
2 screws (2). Remove the whole
suspension system from the axle
plate and undo the internal set
screw (3). Turn the rocker arms (3)
downwards; the buffer elements (1)
can then be easily removed from
the upper and lower openings.
To fit new sleeves, use the reverse
procedure. Ensure that the buffer
elements are securely located in
the upper or lower openings.
Options – Footplates

Footboard

(7.21)
There are several footboards avail-
able. These can be flipped up to
make it easier to transfer to/from
the chair.
Lower leg length
By undoing the clamp screw (1),
you can adjust the lower leg
length. Undo the clamp screw,
then adjust the tube with the foot-
board to the required position.
Tighten clamp screws again (see the page on
torque).
Ensure that the plastic push joint is located under
the clamp screw in the correct position.
Ensure that you do not go below the minimum gap
to the floor of 2.5 cm.
Attention:
When getting into or out of the chair, never stand
on the footboards.
