System requirements

To operate your Gigaset SE551 WLAN dsl/cable you need:
u
a PC with
– a 802.11b or 802.11g-compatible wireless network adapter.
In order to be able to use the superior range and increased data throughput
gained by using Super G technology, we recommend using a Gigaset PC Card 108
or a Gigaset USB Adapter 108.
or
– an Ethernet device,
u
a web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or Firefox 1.0 for configuring
your Gigaset SE551 WLAN dsl/cable,
u
for Internet access:
– a DSL connection (splitter) or phone line,
– a DSL or cable modem,
– your Internet service provider's access data.
For experienced users
The standard settings for the Gigaset SE551 WLAN dsl/cable are:
– IP address: 192.168.2.1
– Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
– SSID: ConnectionPoint

Overview of the installation steps

1. First install the Ethernet network card or a wireless network adapter such as the
Gigaset PC USB Adapter 108 in your PC. The installation procedure can be found in
the products' user guide.
2. Only after that should you install the Gigaset SE551 WLAN dsl/cable.
– Connect the Gigaset SE551 WLAN dsl/cable (see page 20).
– Set up the network (see page 24).
– Configure the Gigaset SE551 WLAN dsl/cable (see page 26).
This will require the access data from your Internet service provider.
These steps are described on the following pages. You will need around 10-15 min-
utes to complete them.
Please remember:
The default SSID of the Gigaset SE551 WLAN dsl/cable is ConnectionPoint.
By default there is no encryption active. Please be sure to make your network
secure. You will find information about this in the chapter entitled "Operating
information" on page 28.
