Unless the tap water in your area is "approved" (water free of
scale-forming minerals), always add distilled water to the battery.
When water is added during freezing weather, the battery must
receive a charge immediately to mix the water and electrolyte. If
it is not mixed, the water will remain at the top and freeze.
Always keep the vent plugs in place and tight. Be sure the vent
holes are free of dirt to prevent gas pressure in cells from breaking
the sealing or the container.

The
battery terminals must be kept clean and tight. A good
method of cleaning terminals is to remove all excess corrosion
with a wire brush, then wash with a weak baking soda solution or
ammonia.
After cleaning, a thin coating of vaseline or light cup
grease will retard further corrosion.
When the Tractor is not in active use, the battery will require a
charge at sufficient intervals to keep the hydrometer reading at or
above 1.250. An idle storage battery will slowly discharge.
Check the liquid level in
each cell weekly by removing
the vent plugs. Water must be
added before the tops of the
separators are exposed. DO
NOT
OVERFILL.
