4. RANGE AND DIRECTION SELECTOR L E V E R - W i t h the selector
lever i n n e u t r a l , depress the combination clutch and brake pedal
and place the lever i n any one of the four f o r w a r d or one r e v e r s e
speed ranges to obtain the desired working speed or d i r e c t i o n .
CAUTION
Be sure the selector lever i s i n n e u t r a l when p a r k i n g and
starting the t r a c t o r .
5. COMBINATION C L U T C H AND BRAKE P E D A L - The combination
clutch and brake pedal w i l l disengage the t r a c t i o n clutch on the
engine when the pedal i s depressed to approximately three-fourths
of i t s f u l l t r a v e l , thereby stopping the t r a n s m i s s i o n d r i v e belt.
Depress the pedal fully to apply the brake,
6. BRAKING A N D PARKING - When making a n o r m a l stop, depress
the brake pedal about three-fourths of i t s f u l l t r a v e l which w i l l
stop the transmission d r i v e belt. I f a fast stop is necessary, fully
depress the pedal t o engage the brake band w i t h the brake d r u m
on the t r a n s m i s s i o n .

Always engage and lock the brake when p a r k i n g the t r a c t o r .
The brake is locked by tightening the lock lever (6, Figure
w i t h the brake pedal fully depressed.
Make certain the brake band i s maintained i n proper
adjustment.
Should the brake band become w o r n or
loosened, the t r a c t i o n clutch on the engine can be r e -
engaged when excessive p r e s s u r e i s applied t o the
brake pedal.

B e l t Adjustment instructions i n the Preventive M a i n -
tenance Section.
7. U G H T SWITCH - P u l l the Ught switch out to t u r n on the head-
lights and push i n to t u r n off the headlights.
8. A M M E T E R WARNING LIGHT - The warning light goes on when
the key switch i s turned on and should go off when the engine
starts.
I f the ammeter warning light does not go off when the
engine starts and i s running, i t i s an indication that the battery i s
discharging and the generator i s not supplying c u r r e n t .
STOP
THE ENGINE A N D CHECK FOR T H E CAUSE.
If the ammeter light f l i c k e r s when the engine i s at low i d l e ,
the battery, generator or regulator may not necessarily r e q u i r e
servicing.
However, i f the w a r n i n g light r e m a i n s on when engine
speed i s increased, stop the engine i m m e d i a t e l y and check for the
cause.
