    Preparations Preparations 1.1 General This scanner contains sensitive mechanical and electronic components. The installation may only be done by trained service technicians.     Hardware installation 2 Hardware installation of the OS 11000 / OK 300 Hybrid color 2.1 Before you begin The installation of the OS11000 / OK 300 Hybrid color can be done by two persons. For the first installation of the book cradle, at least five persons are required. This manual describes the installation for both the OS 11000 and OK 300 Hybrid color.

    Hardware installation 2.3 Preparing the book cradle Before installing the scanner at its final destination, you should prepare the book cradle. Plug in the air hose [17] and power cable [18] first. The access is easier if the book cradle is not installed in the scanner base yet.

    Hardware installation 2.5 Installing the book cradle Lift up the scanner base approx. 20 cm above the floor. Thereto you need at least 4 persons or a lifting gear which can lift all 4 edges of the scanner base at the same time. An additional person can now roll the book cradle into the frame.

    Hardware installation 2.6 Leveling the scanner base and book cradle For the correct function of the scanner and the camera it is absolutely necessary to level both, the scanner base and the book cradle. First the scanner base must be leveled. After that, the top of the glass plate of book cradle will be leveled against the scanner base.

    Hardware installation 2.7 Installing the column of the camera (hybrid only) After the installation of the scanner base, the column of the camera can be attached at the back side of the base. Fig. 23 Preparing the installation: Put the aluminum plate [32] below the column on the floor. Install the two fixing pins [33] for the lamp system at the rear of the scanner base like shown in Fig.

Put in the four dowel pins [35] like shown in Fig. 26 ff. and drive them in with a hammer. These pins are required to bring the column in the correct position against the scanner base.

  • Page 20 Hardware installation Fig. 29 Fig. 30 After the installation of the dowel pins you should check if the column is in the upright position (see Fig. 30). Check the positions ‘front to rear’ and ‘left to right’. If the column is not upright, you should recheck the leveling of the scanner base. As soon as the position is correct, you can tighten the 4 fixing screws at the column.

    Hardware installation Installing the console of the camera (hybrid only) After the column, the console of the camera can be installed. The console supports the microfilm camera head and can be driven up- and downwards by a motor drive. Fig. 31 Fig.
  • Page 22 Hardware installation Fig. 33 Fig. 33 shows the rear axle [43] with the open chain locks [44]. To install the console, remove the two chain locks from the rear axle. Install the rear axle at the back side of the column and reinstall the two chain locks at the end of the two tension chains.
  • Page 23 Hardware installation Fig. 35 Fig. 35 shows the side view of rear axle. At this point, the scotch tape at the column can be removed. Fig. 36 Now you can install the camera console. You need the help of a second person. Make sure to have the two hexagon fixing screws [46] for the camera console ready.

  • Page 25 Hardware installation Fig. 39 Plug in the two 37 pin flat ribbon cables [47 + 48] at the back side of the console. Fig. 40 Remove the M3 secure screw [49] and the cable strap [50] at the back side of the chains. The chains will be released (they are secured during the transport).

The counter weight is installed inside the column and has approximately the same weight like the console with the camera head. The two units are connected by the tension chain and work with the principle of an elevator.
  • Page 27 Hardware installation Now install the camera head: put the head on the head mounting device under 45°. Turn then the head in a 90° position until the lock pin [53] snaps in with a ‘click’ noise. When the camera head is in the correct position, you can fix it with the two secure screws [54]. Fig.

    Hardware installation Installing the lamp systems (hybrid only) The microfilm camera uses two lamp systems for illumination of the table during microfilming. The lamp systems are packed in separate cartons and have to be assembled before the installation. Fig. 46 Fig.

Put the lamp arm over the lamp holder and reinstall the metal pin through lamp arm and lamp holder. Reinstall the hexagon screw at the front side to secure the lamp arm.

The cables are numbered and have different pin numbers to avoid wrong plugging.

    Software installation Installing the WIDEsystem software The WIDEsystem software is a background monitor which will be started automatically with Windows and give you information about the status of the scanner, the scanner up- time, etc. After installation of the tool, you will detect a small scanner icon [101] in your systray on the right bottom of your task bar.

    Software installation Running the software For the operation of the scanner it is necessary, that the following software programs are started: • WIDEsystem • WIDEimage • OS11000.exe We recommend to create shortcuts and copy them to a) the autostart folder of “All users” b) the PC desktop Copying the shortcuts to the autostart folder starts the required programs automatically as soon as the user logs on to his Windows computer.
