8.2 SUITABLE FLUE SYSTEMS
Your wood fire will provide optimum efficiency and performance when connected to a 155 mm
diameter flue system. The cross‐sectional area of the flue shall be within 20 percent of the flue
collar opening
8.2.1 MASONRY FLUE SYSTEMS
The wood fire may also be connected
to a masonry flue system, provided
the flue system complies with AS/NZS
2918 or with the construction rules
found in the building code enforced
locally. The flue system must have
either a clay liner or a suitably listed
stainless steel liner. If the masonry
flue system has a square or
rectangular liner that is larger in cross
sectional area than a round 155 mm
flue, it should be relined with a
suitably listed 155 mm stainless steel
liner. Do not downsize the flue to less
than 155 mm unless the flue system is
straight and exceeds 8 m in height.
When passing through a combustible
wall, the use of an insulated listed
thimble is required.
