6: Troubleshooting

There are three common areas that cause the majority of installation problems:
1) Jumper settings are incorrect.
2) IDE cable connections are not aligned properly (with "Pin 1").
3) Power and IDE cable connections are not fully seated.

Problem Checklist:

So, if after you install your drive you find that it is not functioning properly, try to
answer these questions:
Are all cables secured?
- Check power and IDE cables to ensure that they are well seated.
- If necessary, unplug the IDE cable and check to see if any of the pins are bent.
Is the cable connected to pin 1 on both sides?
- Verify that the red (or otherwise distinguished) stripe on your IDE cable is
aligned with "Pin 1" on all attached devices.
Is the MASTER/SLAVE/CSEL setting correct?
- Check the other device attached to the IDE cable you connected to your
CD-ROM drive. If it is set to MASTER, the CD-ROM must be set to SLAVE.
If the other device is set to SLAVE then you must set the CD-ROM to MASTER.
- If the CD-ROM is the only device on the cable, it must be set to MASTER.
- If the other device is set to CABLE SELECT (CSEL or CS), then the
CD-ROM must be set to CABLE SELECT.
Is the power connected?
- Reseat the power plug into the "DC input" on your CD-ROM drive.
- If available, try to use a different power cable than your original choice.
For Best Results...
Kenwood strongly recommends using quality name-brand CD-R and CD-RW
media. One way to identify this media is to look for a silk-screened logo and
label on the top side of the disc. Using quality media will enhance the overall
experience with your Kenwood 72X or 62X TrueX CD-ROM Drive.
