TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS

ENGINE WILL Possible Cause
NOT START
1. Check control Fuel valve OFF.
positions.
Choke open.
Engine switch
OFF.
2. Check engine Engine oil level
oil level. low.
3. Check fuel. Out of fuel.
Bad fuel; engine
stored without
treating or
draining
gasoline, or
refueled with
bad gasoline.
4. Remove and Spark plug faulty,
inspect spark fouled, or
plug. improperly
gapped.
Spark plug wet
with fuel
(flooded engine).
5. Take engine to Fuel filter
an authorized restricted,
Honda carburetor
servicing malfunction,
dealer, or refer ignition
to shop malfunction,
manual. valves stuck, etc.
ENGINE LACKS Possible Cause
POWER
1. Check air filter. Filter elements
restricted.
2. Check fuel. Bad fuel; engine
stored without
treating or
draining
gasoline, or
refueled with
bad gasoline.
3. Take engine to Fuel filter
an authorized restricted,
Honda carburetor
servicing malfunction,
dealer, or refer ignition
to shop malfunction,
manual. valves stuck, etc.
Correction
Move lever to ON
position.
Move lever to
CLOSED position
unless the engine
is warm.
Turn engine switch
to ON position.
Fill with the
recommended oil
to the proper level
(p. 8).
Refuel (p. 7).
Drain fuel tank and
carburetor (p. 12).
Refuel with fresh
gasoline(p. 7).
Gap or replace
spark plug (p. 10).
Dry and reinstall
spark plug. Start
engine with
throttle lever in
MAX. position.
Replace or repair
faulty components
as necessary.
Correction
Clean or replace
filter elements
(p. 9).
Drain fuel tank and
carburetor (p. 12).
Refuel with fresh
gasoline (p. 7).
Replace or repair
faulty components
as necessary.
