USB Installation Process
This section describes how to install the cable modem using the USB port.
Using the USB port to connect to the Internet enables you to install the cable
modem more quickly and easily than connecting to the Internet using the
computer's Ethernet port, because you do not have to remove the case from
the computer to install a network interface card (NIC). Using the USB port,
however, enables you to connect only one computer to the cable modem.
See "Installing the Cable Modem Using the Ethernet Port" if you wish to install
the cable modem using the Ethernet port or to a router.
If you have or plan on purchasing a router, please refer to page 8. You cannot
use the USB connection with a router.
Note: Do not plug the USB modem into an external USB hub. Plug directly to your
computer.
You must contact your cable provider and register the MAC address of
the modem. The MAC address is located on the label on the modem.
Install the cable modem according to the following procedure:
1. Connect the coaxial cable to the cable modem's CATV cable
connector.
2. Connect the USB cable to the modem (not the computer).
3. Plug the power adapter into the modem. Plug the other end into a
wall outlet or power strip.
4. Power on the computer. After windows boots up, insert the DCM-202
CD-ROM. If the Welcome window opens, click Close. Plug the other
end of the USB cable into an available USB slot on your computer.
