    Basic Operation Operation Buttons Throttle Up Throttle up the power to your trackbypressingthetopendoftheThrottle Control Rocker Switch firmly for about 5 seconds, until theengine's headlight and lighted cars burn bright. Thenputtheengineintomotionbyfirmlypressingthe Directionbutton(holditforapproximately1second)on your remote once. If the engine does not begin to move as soon as you firmly press the Direction button,youmaynot have sent enough voltage to the track to makethetrainmove.

    Proto-Sound 2.0 Operating Instructions This manual contains the operating instructions for Proto-Sound2.0inconventional mode only. InstructionsforaccessingDCS command mode features accompany the DCS Remote Control System equipment. Activating Proto-Sound2.0Conventional Mode Features: Proto-Sound2.0featuresareactivated by sequences of Bell andWhistle button pushes described below. Please read thefulldescriptions of each feature before using it. To use these buttons toactivatefeaturesratherthantoblowthewhistleorringthebell,you should tap the buttons very quickly with a ½-second pause betweenbuttonpresses.

    Again, after allowing about 30seconds for that sequencetorun,presstheDirection button one more time to trigger thefourthandfinalPSAsequence. The PSAwill continue,andwithinafewseconds,theengineandbell will start and move out on its own at the currentthrottle setting, in thesamedirectionitwastravelingwhen you began thesequence. Oncethebellturnsoff,theoperatorregainscontrolofthe transformer's bell andWhistle buttons and can ring the bell or blow the Whistle as usual.

    Front Coupler: To fire the front coupler (if your engine has one), quickly tap the Bell button once followedbyfourquicktapsoftheWhistlebutton, allowing approximately ½ second to lapse betweeneachquickbuttonpress. Thesoundoftheliftbarandairlinedepletionwill play,andtheknucklewillbereleased.     Maintenance Care of the Remote Control Your RailKing Remote Control System shouldofferyearsoftrouble-freeservice. There are a fewthingsyoucandotoensuretrouble-freeoperation: If your train respondsinconsistently, replace oldbatteries withfreshones. Do not mix oldandnewbatteries. Remove batteries before storing for extendedperiods. Donotdroptheremote. It can damage the delicateelectronics inside. Any attempt byanyoneotherthananauthorizedM.T.H.repairpersontoopenand repair the handheld transmitter orlock-on mayresultindamageandthelossof warrantyprotection.

    Cleaning the Wheels, Tires and Track Periodicallycheckthelocomotivewheelsandpickups for dirt and buildup, whichcancausepoorelectrical contact and traction andprematurely wear outthe neoprenetractiontires. Wheels and tires can be cleaned usingdenatured (not rubbing) alcohol applied with a cotton swab. Tocleanthetrack,useRailKingTrackCleaningFluid and a clean rag or denatured (notrubbing) alcohol. Unplug the transformer and wipe the rails ofthetrack, turning theragfrequentlytoensurethatyouareusing cleanclothontherails.

    Add15-20Drops If youchoosenottoaddthefluid(orhavealready SmokeFluid added the fluid but choose torunsmoke-free),turnoff the smoke unit switch located undertheenginebody. Failure eithertoadd fluid to the unit or to turn it off may damagethesmokeunitheatingelement and/or wicking material. Running the engine without a primed smoke unit may cause damage When the smoke output while running the engine begins todiminish,addanother 10-15 drops of smoke fluidorturnthesmokeunitoff.

    Self-Charging Battery Back-Up The special NiCad7-cell8.4vself-chargingbatteryrecharges continuously duringtrain operationand should last for uptofiveyears. The battery i s a drybatterythatshouldnot leak or cause anydamagetoyourengine. Depending upon when yourengine was built, it may needtobechargedrightoutofthebox. If enginesoundsseemdistorted or garbledatlowvoltagesorbecomesilentwhenpowerfromthetransformeristurned off, test the battery todetermine whether it should be rechargedorreplaced.
