CHART A12—Engine excessive vibration
Cause
Engine not running smoothly/missing.
Oil level over full.
If the condition occurs at idle, the idle speed
is set too low for the accessories.
Fan damaged or accessories faulty.
Fan hub faulty.
Engine mounts loose or broken.
Inlet & exhaust valve clearances set
incorrectly.
Engine compression low in one or more
cylinders.
Alternator bearing worn or damaged.
Flywheel housing misaligned.
Injection pump timing incorrect.
Drive line components worn or unbalanced.
Fault Finding
Refer to Chart A5.
Check oil level.
Check the engine idle rpm setting.
Check/replace the vibrating component. Refer to correct
installation procedure and torque figures.
Inspect/replace the fan hub. Refer to correct installation procedure
and torque figures.
Check/replace the engine mounts. Refer to correct installation
procedure and torque figures.
Set the valve clearances to the recommended clearances.
Check the engine compression.
Check/replace the alternator.
Check/replace the flywheel alignment.
If the pump has recently been removed and replaced the timing
could be incorrect if the correct removal procedures were not
followed.
The timing can only be checked by a FIE specialist using the
correct equipment.
Check and inspect drive line components, such as prop-shafts.
Refer to Page 23 of this manual.
