6. Permanently ground the motor using the green ground terminal located on the inside of the motor canopy or
access plate, see
sure the ground wire is connected to an electrical service ground.
7. Bond the motor to the pool structure in accordance with the National Electrical Code. UL requires use of a
solid copper bonding conductor not smaller than 8 AWG.
8. Connect the wire from the accessible wire connector on the motor to all metal parts of the swimming pool,
spa, or hot tub structure and to all electrical equipment, metal conduit, and metal piping within 5 feet of the
inside walls of the swimming pool, spa, or hot tub. For Canada, a 6 AWG or larger solid copper bonding
conductor is required.
9. The pump should be permanently connected to either a circuit breaker, 2-pole timer or 2-pole relay. If AC
power is supplied by a GFCI circuit breaker, use a dedicated circuit breaker that has no other electrical loads.
10. Connect the pump permanently to a circuit. Make sure no other lights or appliances are on the same circuit.
