SECTION 5
Using with Connected Devices
Controlling the Transmission of MIDI Messages
As soon as InSpire-air is connected to a computer or MIDI module, the current
settings on the panel are immediately transmitted to the device or software.
This is also true when you call up a new memory location ("F-slot"). This could
cause the receiving parameter on your software or external MIDI device to jump
suddenly from its current setting to that of your InSpire-air. To control avoid
unwanted results such as a sudden change in volume or a jump in pan
positioning, use Null and Mute mode features.
NULL mode
NULL mode
essentially means that when InSpire-
air is connected to any MIDI or USB device, you
have to move a control to get an effect. In NULL
mode, MIDI messages are blocked until you
activate the fader, knob, or pad that is controlling
that message.
To activate or de-activate Null mode, press the
Null (Advanced + Null) button. It will light up
when Null mode is active.
MUTE mode
MUTE mode
goes one step further. It allows you to
move any control on InSpire-air, and not get an
effect at all until you transmit the change with a
"snapshot." MUTE mode allows you to create a
large set of commands that can all be sent with one
touch, rather than having to do them all one at a
time. It also allows you to move any fader or knob,
or touch any pad, to determine what function it is
controlling, by checking its CC number with the Ctrl
Assign (Advanced + Ctrl Assign) key, or to check and
readjust its value, without affecting anything.
Press the Mute button to enter mute mode. It will
light up when activated and "MUTE" will appear on
the LCD screen.
