Air Filter and Choke Valve

Removing filter cover
The air filter's function is to intercept
and retain dust and dirt in the intake
air and thus reduce wear on engine
components.
Clogged air filters have a detrimental
effect on engine performance, they
increase fuel consumption and make
starting more difficult.
Clean loose dirt off the filter cover
and the surrounding area before
removing the filter to insure that no
foreign matter can get into the
carburetor or engine when the filter
cover is lifted off.
The filter can then be knocked out
and cleaned with gasoline. It may
also be blown out with compressed
air. In the case of a repair it is always
best to fit a new filter.
Use this opportunity to check the
condition and operation of the choke
valve.
