QUICK START
Slide the battery into the compartment. (Orienting the battery: Have the
side with the word "Nikon" on top and insert the end with the triangle
first.) Press the battery door closed.
SETTING THE DIOPTER
The diopter is located to the right of the viewfinder. It's important to set your diopter so
you're able to see when your subject is sharp. If it's set incorrectly, autofocus will still
focus the lens on your subject, but the subject may still appear blurry to you. You only
have to set the diopter once.
Remove the body cap from the D60 (or remove the lens if you've already attached
one). Look through the viewfinder and point the camera at something bright so you
can easily see the three boxes in the viewfinder. Slide the diopter up and down while
looking through the viewfinder until the boxes are sharp.
Note: If you wear glasses when photographing, have them on when you set your
diopter. The opposite is also true. If you don't wear glasses when photographing, don't
wear glasses when you set your diopter. The diopter is correcting the viewfinder for
your vision, so you want to see the viewfinder under the same circumstances as when
you're taking a picture.

ATTACHING A LENS

Remove the cap on the back of your lens by turning the cap to the right.
On the back of the lens there is a small white circle along the outer edge. Look for a
matching white circle on the camera body, along the edge of where the lens attaches.
As you fit the back of the lens into the opening in the camera, line up the two circles.
Once the circles are aligned the lens will fit flush with the camera. Rotate the lens to
the right until it locks into place.

INSERTING A MEMORY CARD

Make sure the camera is off before inserting the memory card.
The D60 uses a Secure Digital (SD) memory card. The card slot is located on the
right side of the camera (when looking at the camera from the back). Open the
cover to the memory card slot by pressing and sliding the cover toward the back of
the camera.
Removing the memory card:
Always turn the camera off before removing
the memory card. To remove the card, simply
press down on the card and it will pop out
partway when you lift up your finger.
TIP
It's important to orient the card
correctly when inserting it into the
camera. One corner of the mem-
ory card looks as though it has
been cut off. The end with this
clipped corner goes into the cam-
era first. The side labeled with the
name of the card should be facing
the back of the camera.
