Manual focusing - MF

For certain subjects and situations, it can be beneficial to set the
focus yourself, rather than using autofocus. For example, if you
want to use the same setting for several pictures and it would be
more work to use metering memory lock, or if you want to keep the
setting at infinity for landscape pictures, or if poor, i.e. very dark,
lighting conditions do not allow any, or only slower AF operation.
To focus, turn the distance setting ring on the lens until your
subject or the most important part of the subject is shown sharply
Notes:
• When the shutter release button is tapped/lightly pressed, the
top display shows the set distance as well as the front and rear
limits of the resulting depth of field range (see p. 285).

function is set accordingly, see p. 222).
• Even if

To make it easier to achieve precise settings or to increase the
precision of a setting, the Leica SL offers two features:
– The enlarged display of a middle section.
Explanation: The larger the details of the subject are shown, the
better you can assess their sharpness and the more accurately
you can focus.
– The identification of sharply focused subjects (peaking)
You can have the edges of sharply focused subjects marked in
color so making it is easier to determine the optimal setting.
Four colors are available for the peaking display to allow it to be
matched to different subjects/backgrounds.
