In order to have the best chance of getting good pictures and no
"false triggers", you should consider doing the following:
• Select the "Long" Distance setting (PIR).
• Select a site that ideally has the deer about 25 feet from the camera.
• Select a site that has very few leaves in the fi eld of view to avoid potential
"false triggers".
• Set the camera up so it is looking away from the sun. This minimizes glare on
the lens and ensures the best lighting on the target.
• Understand the use of the laser and how you aim the camera for best results. You
would like for the PIR and camera to point at the center body mass of the game
animal. A suggestion would be to put a stick in the ground about where you
expect the game animal to be. Turn the laser on, and then point the camera so
that the laser hits the stick at the proper height above the ground. You can use an
object to wedge the camera up or down to obtain the proper height. Remember,
the PIR beam width is about 2 feet wide and 1 foot high at a distance of 25 feet
from the camera.
Walk-Test
The Recon camera comes equipped with a WALK-TEST which is only active when
the switch is in Setup. A red LED, located behind the round motion lens in the upper
right corner, will fl ash when the motion circuit detects a moving heat source. This
will allow you to determine the left and right edges of motion activiation. The WALK-
TEST in conjuction with the LASER, which gives you your UP and DOWN alignment,
will pin point exactly where your picture will be taken. It is important to know that the
Motion Circuit or PIR, Passive Infrared Receiver, is like a fl ashlight beam. It is about
2 feet wide and 1 foot high at 25 feet.
