If Your Engine Quits or Won't Start
SYMPTOM: Engine starts, but runs poorly.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
idles roughly, too
fast, stalls
improperly throttle
freeplay
poor engine
performance at
altitudes above
1,500 m (4,500 feet).
high coolant
temperature
runs erratically,
misfires
blubbers (rich fuel
mixture)
sooty exhaust (rich
fuel mixture)
detonates or pings
under load
afterfires (backfires)
pre-ignition (runs on
after ignition
switched OFF)
WHAT TO DO
Check engine idle adjustment
(page 120 ). If the problem persists,
see your Honda dealer.
Check the throttle freeplay
(page 114 ).
Ask your Honda dealer to modify the
carburetion with a high altitude jet.
