Symptoms
Starting motor does not crank
Engine cranks but does not start
Engine:
Runs with continuous misfiring or
engine runs unevenly or erratically
Grass cutting is ragged or uneven
Loss of power or system will not operate
in either direction
Overheating
Low oil pressure
(Indicated by oil light on while engine is
running.)

Probable Causes
Park lever is not in park position (ON)
or park switch is out of adjustment
Blade Engagement switch is engaged
Weak or dead battery
For additional causes
No fuel or line plugged
Numerous
Left Hand Tank has gas
Numerous
Dull, bent or broken cutting blades
Deck full of wet sticky grass
Cutting Blades are not operating at full
engine speed
Belt over center take-up is loose
Worn or broken belts
Deck is not level
Bypass valve rods are disengaged
Linkage bolt is loose or lost
Bad pump belt and/or idler pulley
Loose, lost or broke idler pulley spring
Restrictions in air cleaner
Internal interference or leakage in
Hydro-Drive
Insufficient hydraulic oil supply
Poor compression
Steering linkage needs adjustment
Air in system
For additional causes
Air intake screen or cleaning fins
clogged
Not operating engine at rated speed
For additional causes
Low oil level
Oil diluted or too light

Suggested Remedies
Place control handle in neutral and full
out, pull up on park lever. Re-adjust
park position switch
Disengage blade switch
Recharge or replace

Fill tank or replace line

Switch Left/Right tank valve.

Sharpen or replace cutting blades
Clean underside of deck
Increase engine rpms to full speed
(3600 rpm)
Tension over center take-up
Replace worn and broken belts
Check air pressure in all 4 tires
Make level adjustments to the deck
Engage bypass valve rods
Replace linkage bolt
Replace belt and/or idler pulley
Tighten idler pulley if loose
Reattach or replace idler pulley spring
Service air cleaner
See your dealer
Have dealer check hydro-drive

Adjust linkage
Check filter & fittings

Clean screen and fin
Increase engine speed to 3600 rpm
