With the carriage (160) approximately in the center of the mechanism the right end
of the upper carriage rail (121) with one hand and the right endplate (82) with the
other hand. Pull the shoulder of the rail (121) from the hole in the endplate (82) and
continue to pull it up and back in the normal carriage plane until it clears the
endplate.
6.
The left end of the carriage rail (121) may now be removed from the left endplate
(144) and the rear bearing (162) slipped from the bearing carrier.
7.
Take up the replacement shaft and inspect the shouldered and tapped ends. Be sure
that the threads are clear of debris.
8.
If a new rear bearing (162) is to be installed, slip a new "O"-ring (165) onto the
bearing. Otherwise, continue with the original bearing and "O"-ring.
9.
Install the replacement shaft (121) by reversing steps 1 through 4 above.

1.
Remove top cover (see Paragraph 4.5.1).
2.
Remove ribbon advance cables (see Paragraph 4.5.15).
3.
Remove ribbon advance mechanism (see Paragraph 4.5.23).
4.
Remove carriage drive cables (see Paragraph 4.5.18).
5.
Remove printhead (see Paragraph 4.5.23).
6.
Remove lower carriage rail (Paragraph 4.5.24, steps 3 through 5).
7.
Pull carriage (160) free of upper carriage rail (121).
8.
Install replacement carriage (160) in reverse order.

The paper advance drive motor is easily replaced as follows:
1.
Remove top cover (see Paragraph 4.5.1).
2.
Remove the electronics chassis from the printer mechanism (see Paragraph 4.5.4).
