Chapter 26
Troubleshooting
If you are using a non-Cisco approved GBIC module, remove the GBIC module from the switch, and
Note
replace with a Cisco-approved module.
After inserting a Cisco-approved GBIC, use the errdisable recovery cause gbic-invalid global
configuration command to verify the port status, and enter a time interval for recovering from the
error-disabled state. After the elapsed interval, the switch brings the interface out of the error-disabled
state and retries the operation. For more information about the errdisable recovery command, refer to
the Catalyst 2950 Desktop Switch Command Reference.

lists problems commonly encountered when using CMS:
Suggested Solution
A missing Java plug-in or incorrect settings could cause this problem.
CMS requires a Java plug-in order to function correctly. For instructions on
downloading and installing the plug-ins, refer to the Release Notes for the Catalyst
2950 for this release.
If your PC is connected to the Internet when you attempt to access CMS, the
Note
browser notifies you that the Java plug-in is required if the Java plug-in is not
installed. This notification does not occur if your PC is directly connected to
the switch and has no Internet connection.
If the plug-in is installed but the Java applet does not initialize, do this:
Select Start > Programs > Java Plug-in Control Panel. Click the Proxies tab,
and verify that Use browser settings is checked and that no proxies are enabled.
Make sure that the HTTP port number is 80. CMS only works with port 80,
which is the default HTTP port number.
Make sure the port that connects the PC to the switch belongs to the same VLAN
as the management VLAN. For more information about management VLANs,
see the
"Management VLANs" section on page
