Feed Roller Pressure

36 • Adjustments
General
The rubber pressure roller is supported by an eccentric shaft mounted in bearings
located in vertical slots in the front and rear mounting plates of the drive module.
These bearings are supported by compression springs and controlled by cap screws
located in the top of the bearing mounts.
From time to time the feed pressure setting will need to be readjusted. This is
important to reduce any slip from too light an adjustment or any binds from too tight
an adjustment which will result in excessive roller wear or feed failure.

Adjustment Procedure:

1) Open the stock feed lever (fully clockwise) and remove the stock from the feed
module.
2) Loosen without removing the two cap screws located in the top of the bearing
mounts using the 9/64" ball driver from the tool kit.
3) Using a small piece of the same stock being ran as a "feeler" gauge tighten the
two 9/64" cap screws so that there is equal distance (just enough to cause the top
roller to rotate as the gauge is moved left and right) between the two rollers at
both outboard edges. This should be done with the stock feed lever closed (fully
counter clockwise).
4) Add 1/2 turn to each of the 9/64" cap screws from the previous adjustment.
5) Reload the production stock through the feed module.
6) Run the checkout format (found in the Printer Adjust Mode on the front panel)
and further adjust the two 9/64" cap screws an equal amount based on the results
as follows:
Using the scribe marks on the front of the machine cover measure the
length of the label. These scribe marks are 11 inches apart with the
tolerance of the label built into the right scribe. Align the left end of the
label to the left side of the left scribe and confirm that the right end falls
within the right scribe.
If the label produced measures less than 11inchs, tighten (clockwise) both
screws equally and repeat the measurement on a new strip.
If the 11 inch label produced exceeds 11inchs, loosen (counter-clockwise)
both screws equally and repeat the measurement on a new strip.
NOTE: Care should be taken to ensure that the label you use for the
measurement is an actual label produced after any adjustments
made. Run at least three labels between adjustments and use the
last label out to achieve this.
7) Once an 11-inch strip is achieved a final check for stock feed balance between
inboard and outboard can be made. Measure the distance between the main
