Unit Preparations
4. On the primary return connection pipe a 1-
1/4" x 1-1/4" x 1/2" tee fitting and the boil-
er drain valve. The tee fitting and boiler
drain valve will not be removed after the
completion of test, so ensure adequate pipe
dope is applied.
5. Temporarily plug the tee fitting on the boil-
er return using a 1-1/4" NPT plug. Use pipe
dope sparingly to allow removal of the plug
upon completion of the test.
6. Connect a hose to the boiler drain valve and
connect the other end to a fresh water sup-
ply. Ensure the hose can be used as a drain
hose upon completion of the test.

Hydrostatic Test Procedures

1. Open the air vent located on the 1/2 inch
connection of the reducing tee located at
the top of the unit, as shown in Fig. 5 page
15, one full turn counter-clockwise.
2. Open the fresh water supply valve and then
open the boiler drain valve slowly to fill the
boiler with water.
WARNING
The boiler will fill quickly as the total
water volume is less than 5 gallons [ 19 L].
3. When the air vent begins to bleed water or
stops releasing air, close the boiler drain
valve.
4. Close the air vent and slowly reopen the
boiler drain valve until the test pressure on
the pressure gauge reaches a maximum 30
psig.
WARNING
Do not pressurize the boiler and its com-
ponents above 30 psig. Damage to the
heat exchanger and the boiler compo-
nents could occur resulting in personal
injury, death or substantial property
damage.
5. Allow the test pressure to remain for 10
minutes.
WARNING
Do not leave the unit unattended while
pressurized.
expand and cause excessive pressure,
resulting in severe personal injury, death
or substantial property damage.
6. Ensure constant gauge pressure has been
maintained throughout the 10 minute test.
Check for leaks at all joints. Repair if
found.
WARNING
Leaks must be repaired immediately
when detected. Failure to repair leaks
can damage the unit, resulting in sub-
stantial property damage.
7. Check continuity using a voltmeter across
the terminals of the LWCO device. The
contacts on the LWCO should be closed.
See Item 5 Fig. 27 page 62 for location of
the LWCO.

Completion of Hydrostatic Test and Draining

1. Disconnect the fill hose from the fresh
water source and direct the hose to a suit-
able place of drainage.
2. Open the boiler drain valve and completely
drain the unit. To aid in draining open the
air vent.
3. Remove the hose from the boiler drain
valve when draining is complete.
4. Remove caps, plugs and any other piping
unless they will remain for use in the system
piping.
5. If the manual air vent remains ensure it is
closed.
