Setting
the distance
to the subject
Mode dial: ti /)I
Normally the focus is automatically
adjusted. This function is useful when
the auto focus does not work well such
as in dark places.

Set the mode dial to m, -)
Press MENU.
The menu appears.
Select [@I (FOCUS) with
4/b, the desired distance
setting with A/I.
You can select from the following
6 focus settings:
AUTO, 0.5 m (1 314 feet), 1.0 m
(3 114 feet), 3.0 m (9 314 feet),
7.0 m (23 feet), -(infinite).
Press MENU.
The menu disappears.
Record the image.
To reactivate
auto focusing
Select [AUTO] with A/I in step 3.

Focal point information may not show
the entirely correct distance. Use the
information as a guide.
l
If you shoot a subject within 0.6 m
(23 518 feet) while the zoom is set to the
T side, you cannot get a clear focus. In
such cases, the focal point information
flashes. Press the zoom W button until
the indicator stops flashing.
Recording
images
at

range
(MACRO)
Mode dial:
The macro recording mode is used
when zooming up a small subject, such
as flowers, insects.

Set the mode dial to m, -)

Clear the menu, and press
the control button b (9).
The & (macro) indicator appears
on the LCD screen.
You can record a subject as close
as about 10 cm (4 inches) from the
lens surface with the zoom set all
the way to the W side, or about
60 cm (23 5/S inches) with the
zoom set all the way to the T side.

Record the image.
To return
to normal
recording
mode
Press the control button b (&) again.
The 4% indicator disappears.
When
recording images in macro, use the
finder,
the range visible in the finder may
differ from the actual recording range.
