6.4.5 Defective Memory Disconnection Function

This server has a defective memory disconnection function.
This function disconnects the memory judged to be defective (abnormal) during Power On Self Test
(POST) to start the server. If the memory capacity is discovered to be smaller than the capacity of the
memory installed during POST, there is a possibility of memory defect.
You can check the slot whose memory is defective from the system event log.
Replace the defective memory, if discovered, and then restart the server.
Replacing defective memory modules
1
Refer to the system event log, and check the slot location of a defective

memory module.

"8.3 System Event Log" (pg.205)
2
Replace the defective memory module with a new one according to "6.4.4 How
to Install Memory Modules" ( pg.132).
3
Start up BIOS Setup Utility.
"7.2.1 Starting and Exiting BIOS Setup Utility" (pg.157)
4
Select the [Server] menu – the [Memory Status] submenu, and check that the
item for the replaced memory module is set to "Enabled".
If it is set to "Failed", change it to "Enabled".
"7.2.15 Memory Status Submenu" (pg.174)
When the item corresponding to the replaced memory module is not set to "Enabled", the
server will start with the new memory module still marked as defective and always discon-
nected. By changing the setting to "Enabled", a new memory module will be properly recog-
nized and can be used during the next server start.
5
Release the error status of the defective memory.
Refer to "ServerView User's Guide" for the operational method.
