RAADAPT GPS Module Interface for the Kenwood®
TM‐D710 Amateur Radio Transceiver
Overview:
Thank you for choosing the RAADAPT GPS Module Interface for your Kenwood TM‐
®
D710
transceiver.
I'd like to preface by stating that there are a multitude of options to interface a GPS to
your transceiver. The options and parts selected for this kit were chosen for availability
of components, ease of build and keeping the overall cost of the unit affordable.
The GPS module used is the GlobalSAT EM406A
a high sensitivity built in patch antenna. The EM406A has an extremely fast TTFF and
outputs NMEA 0183 data protocol at 4800 bps.
The serial output of the EM406A is TTL 0V~2.85V. The TM‐D710 transceiver requires RS‐
232 serial level. The 1
TX serial voltage from 2.85V to 5V. The second phase of the circuit (R6, R7, R8, R9, R10,
T2, Q2, C1 & D1) shifts the serial level from TTL to RS‐232. (Re. Fig. 1)
