Hot-Plug Power Supply

To remove a hot-plug power supply:
1. Unlock the hinge on the cable arm and swing the arm away from the power supply area.
2. Identify if the power supply configuration is redundant:

If only one hot-plug power supply is installed, you must power down the server. See
the "Powering Down the Server" section in this chapter.

If two hot-plug power supplies are installed, you can replace the failed power supply
without powering down the server. Proceed with step 3.
3. Press the locking latch
4. Pull the power supply out of the bay

To replace a power supply:
1. Remove the protective cover over the connector pins on the new power supply.
2. Slide the power supply into the bay until it locks into place.
3. Connect the power cord.
4. Swing the cable management arm into place and lock it.
5. Route the power cord in the cable arm.
CAUTION: Do not attempt to remove and replace a power supply as a hot-plug procedure
unless both bays are populated with power supplies.

CAUTION: Always populate power supply bays with either a power supply or blank. Operating
the server without installing a power supply or blank results in improper airflow and improper
cooling that can lead to thermal damage.
