Notes: For high altitude operation, reduce GCW by 2% per 1,000 ft
(300 meters) elevation. For definitions of terms used in this table and
instructions on how to calculate your vehicle load, refer to Vehicle
loading in this chapter. Maximum trailer weights shown. The combined
weight of the completed towing vehicle and the loaded trailer must not
exceed the GCWR.
In ambient temperatures greater than 100°F (38°C), it is recommended
that the maximum GCW be reduced to 11,600 lb. (5,262 kg). At these
temperatures, vehicle speed should be kept below 60 mph (97 km/h)
during highway operation. Extended operation above 4,000 rpm should
be avoided.
Towing a trailer over 3,500 lb. (1,588 kg) requires a weight carrying
class III/IV hitch.
Towing a trailer over 5,000 lb. (2,268 kg) requires a weight carrying
class III/IV hitch with aftermarket weight-distributing equipment
Do not exceed the GVWR or the GAWR specified on the
certification label.
Towing trailers beyond the maximum recommended gross trailer
weight exceeds the limit of the vehicle and could result in
engine damage, transmission damage, structural damage, loss of vehicle
control, vehicle rollover and personal injury.
