TROUBLESHOOTING

If a problem occurs
If this unit functions abnormally during operation, first check the following items. If the unit continues to function abnormally,
or if an abnormality appears other than those listed below, set the player in the stand-by mode and disconnect the AC
power plug, then consult your SHARP dealer or service centre.
SYMPTOM
No sound is heard.
Sound is barely heard.
Although a DVD player is connected,
no sound is heard.
The balance between the left and
right channels is bad.
Hum or excessive noise
No sound is heard, or the sound is
too low, from the centre or surround
speakers.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Are each of the speakers and any
external units connected properly?
Is the volume too low?
Is the correct function mode se-
lected?
Was each item set up properly in
the "SET UP" operation (page 31)?
Is the power to the DVD player con-
nected properly?
Is a digital signal being output from
the DVD player?
Is "DVD 1 NO" being displayed?
Is "DVD 2 NO" being displayed?
Does the type of DVD digital signal
appear in the display?
Is a disc with a sampling frequency
of 96 kHz being played?
Is a Dolby digital 2/0 (monaural) sig-
nal being played with the surround
mode set to NORMAL and without
a centre speaker connected?
Are the front and surround speakers
connected to the correct left and
right channels?
If an external unit is connected, are
the left and right channels con-
nected properly?
Is the speaker wire plugged in cor-
rectly?
Does the speaker wire run past other
electronic equipment?
Are the plugs or terminals dirty?
Is the "SPEAKER SIZE" item set to
"NO" in the "SET UP" operation
(page 31)?
Is the volume too low?

REMEDY
Connect the speakers and external
unit properly.
Increase the volume. The volume
control will change the audio level
slowly.
Select the correct function mode.
Return the current settings to their
initial condition. (Press the MENU
and CLEAR buttons.)
Connect the power to the DVD
player.
Make sure the DVD player is output-
ting a digital signal.
The DVD player is not connected to
the DVD 1 socket, or the optical dig-
ital lead is unplugged. Connect them
correctly.
The DVD player is not connected to
the DVD 2 socket, or the coaxial dig-
ital lead is unplugged. Connect them
properly.
If the type of digital signal is not dis-
played, the signal cannot be played
using the digital inputs. Select an-
other disc.
A digital signal with a sampling fre-
quency of 96 kHz cannot be played
using this unit. In this case, make an
analogue connection.
This signal will not be output if the
centre speaker is not connected.
Connect the centre speaker.
Connect the left and right channels
correctly.
Plug in the speaker wire correctly.
Move the speaker wire away from
other equipment.
Clean the plugs and terminals.
Set it to "YES".
Increase the volume.
