Using recovery media

This section provides instructions on how to use recovery media on different
operating systems.

To use recovery media on Windows 7 or Windows Vista, do the following:
1. Depending on the type of your recovery media, connect the boot medium
(memory key or other USB storage device) to the computer, or insert the boot
disc into the optical drive.
2. Repeatedly press and release the F12 key when restarting the computer.
When the Startup Device Menu opens, release the F12 key.
3. Depending on the type of your recovery media, select the proper startup
device and press Enter. The restore process begins.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
After restoring the computer to the factory default settings, you might have to
reinstall some software programs or device drivers. See "Using the Rescue and
Recovery workspace" on page 44 for details.

the startup device sequence. See "Selecting or changing the startup device
sequence" on page 52.
2. Make sure your computer is turned on and insert the boot disc into the
optical drive. After a short delay, the Rescue and Recovery workspace opens.
Note: You can insert the boot disc into the optical drive when you are
setting the startup device sequence. However, if you insert the boot
disc into the optical drive when you have already entered the
operating system, you need to restart the computer to begin the
restore process.
3. From the Rescue and Recovery menu, click Restore your system.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen. Insert the appropriate Product
Recovery disc when prompted.
