3.3.4 HIGHALTITUDE OPERATION
Thefuel system on this generatormay be influencedby operation
at higher altitudes. Proper operation can be ensured by installing
an altitude kit when required. See the table below to determine
when an altitudekit is required.Operatingthis generatorwithout the
proper altitude kit installed may increase the engine's emissions
and decrease fuel economy and performance. Kits may be
obtained from any Dealer, and should be installed by a qualified
individual.

3.4 GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Thewarranty of the generatordoes not cover itemsthat havebeen
subjected to operator abuse or negligence. To receive full value
from the warranty, the operator must maintain the generator as
instructed in this manual.
Some adjustments wilt need to be made periodically to properly
maintain the generator.
All adjustments in the Maintenancesection of this manual should
be madeat least once eachseason. Followthe requirementsin the
"MaintenanceSchedule".
NOTE:
Clean the air filter every 20 hours. Once a year replace the
spark plug and replacethe air filter. A new spark plug and clean
air filter assure properfuel-air mixture and helpthe enginerun
better and last longer.
3.4.1 GENERATOR MAINTENANCE
Generatormaintenanceconsists of keepingthe unit clean and dry.
Operateand store the unit in a clean dry environmentwhere it will
not be exposed to excessive dust, dirt, moisture or any corrosive
vapors.Coolingair slots in the generatormust not becomeclogged
with snow, leaves,or any otherforeign material.
Checkthe cleanlinessof the generatorfrequently and clean when
dust, dirt, oil, moisture or other foreign substances are visible on
its exteriorsurface.
_CAUTION!
,_
Never insert any object or tool through
the air
cooling slots, even if the engine is not running.
NOTE:
DO NOTuse a garden hoseto clean generator. Water can enter
the enginefuel systemand causeproblems. In addition,if water
enters the generatorthroughcoolingair slots, some water will
be retainedin voidsand crevicesof the rotorand starerwinding
insulation. Water and dirt buildup on the generator internal
windingswill eventuallydecrease the insulationresistanceof
these windings.
3.4.2 TOCLEANTHEGENERATOR
• Use a damp cloth to wipe exteriorsurfaces clean.
• A soft, bristle brush may be usedto loosen caked on dirt, oil,
etc.
• A vacuumcleanermay be usedto pick up loosedirt and debris.
• Low pressure air (not to exceed 25 psi) may be used to
blow away dirt. Inspect cooling air slots and openings on the
generator. T heseopeningsmust be kept cleanandunobstructed.
3.4.3 ENGINE MAINTENANCE
i/_When
working
on the generator, always
disconnect negative cable from battery. Also
disconnect
spark plug wire from spark plug and
keep wire away from spark plug.
3.4.4 CHECKING OILLEVEL
Seethe "Before Starting the Generator"section for informationon
checkingthe oil level. The oil level should be checkedbefore each
use, or at least every eight hours of operation. Keepthe oil level
maintained.
3.4.5 CHANGING THEOIL
Changethe oil after the first 30 hours of operation. Changethe
oil every 100 hours or every season thereafter. If running this
unit under dirty or dusty conditions, or in extremely hot weather,
changethe oil more often.
,A CAUTION!
,_Hot
oil may cause burns. Allow engine to
cool before draining oil. Avoid prolonged
or repeated skin exposure with used oil.
Thoroughly wash exposed areas with soap.
Use the following instructions to changethe oil after the engine
coolsdown:
