AF-assist i lluminator doesnot light:
• AF-assist lamp does not light ifAF-C is selected for autofocus
mode (_ 91) or if continuous-
servo autofocus
is selected when the camera is in AF-Amode. Choose AF-S.If an option
other
than ["] (auto-area
AF) is selected for AF-area mode, select center focus point (_ 94, 96).
• The camera is currently
in live view or a movie is being recorded.
• Off selected for Custom Setting a7 (Built-in
AF-assist illuminator)
(_ 210).
Illuminator
has turned
offautomatically.
Illuminator
may become
hot with continued
use;
wait for lamp to cool down.
Beep doesnot sound:
• Off is selected for Custom Setting dl (Beep; _ 215) > Volume.
Camera is in quiet shutter-release
mode (_ 77) or movie is being recorded
(_ 57).
Focus-mode
selector is set to M (_ 99) or AF-Cis selected for autofocus
mode (_ 91).
Release is selected
for Custom Setting a2 (AF-S priority
selection; _ 208).
Smudges appear in photographs:Clean front and rear lens elements.
If problem
persists, perform
image sensor cleaning
(_ 284).
Soundisnot recordedwith movies:Microphone
off is selected for Movie settings > Microphone.
Thebrightnessof the image in the monitordiffersfrom the exposureof photographs taken in liveview:
Center-weighted
or spot metering
is selected (_
105).
• The camera is in mode M.
• The subject
is too bright
or too dark.
• Active D-Lighting
is in effect (_ 139).
• The photograph
is a long time-exposure

• The flash is used (_

Flickeror banding appearsduring liveview or movie recording:Choose an option for Flicker reduction
that matches the frequency
of the local AC power supply (_ 237).
Bright bands appear duringliveview or movierecording: A flash or other light source with brief duration
was used during
live view or movie recording.
Menu itemcan not be selected:Some options
are not available
in all modes.
