Shooting (All Modes)
Cameratakes time to turn on: Delete files or folders.
Shutter-releasedisabled:
• Memory card is locked, full, or not inserted (_ 29, 32).
• Built-in flash is charging (_ 39).
• Camera is not in focus (_ 38).
• CPU lens with aperture ring attached but aperture not locked at highest f-number. If FEE is
displayed in control panel, select Aperture ring for Custom Setting f6 (Customize
command dials) > Aperture setting to use lens aperture ring to adjust aperture (_ 233).
• Non-CPU lens is attached but camera is not in mode A or M (_ 270).
Nophototaken when remotecontrolshutter-releasebutton ispressed:
• Replace battery in remote control (_ 281).
• Choose remote control release mode (_ 80).
• Flash is charging (_ 82).
• Time selected for Custom Setting c5 (Remote on duration, _ 215) has elapsed: press
camera shutter-release button halfway.
• Bright light is interfering with remote.
Photosare out of focus:
• Rotate focus-mode selector to AF(_ 91).
• Camera unable to focus using autofocus: use manual focus or focus lock (_ 97, 99).
Focus doesnot Iockwhen shutter-releasebutton is pressed halfway: Use AE-L/AF-L button to lock focus
when AF-Cis selected for focus mode or when photographing moving subjects in AF-Amode.
Cannot selectfocuspoint:
• Unlock focus selector lock (_ 96).
• [1] (auto-area AF) or c_ (face-priority AF) selected for AF-area mode: choose another mode.
• Camera is in playback mode (_ 163) or menus are in use(_ 195).
• Press shutter-release button halfway to turn monitor off or activate exposure meters (_ 39).
Subject-tracking AFnot available: Select a non-monochrome Picture Control (_ 131 ).
Cannot selectAF-areamode:Manual focus selected (_ 55, 99).
Onlyone shottaken each time shutter-releasebutton is pressed in continuousreleasemode: Lower built-in
flash (_ 143).
Image size can not bechanged:Image quality set to NEF (RAW) (_ 85).

• Choose lower ISO sensitivity or use high ISO noise reduction (_ 101,205).
• Shutter speed is slower than 8 s: use long exposure noise reduction (_ 205).
