Note: Before troubleshooting, make sure the appliance main line gas shut-off valve, gas control valve, and wall switch (if applicable) are in the
"ON" position.
Important: Valve system troubleshooting should only be performed by a qualified service technician.
SYMPTOM
1. Nothing happens when
ON/OFF switch is turned
on (pilot does not spark).
2. Main burner does not
light and igniter is
sparking.
3. Main burner lights;
then shuts off
unexpectedly.
4. Soot on logs and/or
glass.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
A. Low voltage/or bad lead
wires.
B. Damaged igniter wire.
C. Damaged pilot assembly.
D. Batteries Low
A. No fuel supply.
B. Loose sensor wire.
C. Loose wires to valve.
D. Loose wires to ignition
module.
E. Air in gas line.
F. Low voltage.
A. Gas supply is set to
"OFF."
B. Loose wires to valve.
C. Loose wires to ignition
module.
D. Flame does not engulf
flame sensor.
E. Obstructed vent system.
A. Flame impingement on
the log.
B. Improper air shutter
opening.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Check voltage on AC terminals of module an/or batteries. Voltage should be
between 2.7 and 3.2 VAC. Make sure wire connections are secure.
Check for visible cracked casing, cuts, etc.
Check pilot assembly for visibly broken spark electrode, etc.
Check voltage on DC terminal of batteries. The value should be around 3.0V.
Make sure gas supply is turned on.
Make sure sensor wire connection is securely connected.
Make sure black, green, and orange wires are securely connected to the valve.
Make sure black sensor wire and black igniter wire are securely connected to
ignition module.
Purge gas line of air.
Test voltage at AC terminals of module and/or batteries.
Voltage should be between 2.7 and 3.2 VAC.
Set gas supply to "ON."
Make sure black, green, and orange wires are securely connected to the valve.
Make sure black sensor wire ("S") and black igniter wire ("I") are securely
connected to ignition module.
Check location of sensor.
Check vent system for obstructions. Reset safety limit switch (see Page 17).
Check for proper log placement.
Check for proper air shutter openings.
