Stopping the vehic le
In automatic or m anual mode, first gear
is autom atically engaged (second gear if
the Winter p rogram me is engaged) and
the c lutch is released when the v ehicle is
stationary. In R, reverse gear rem ains
enga ged.
If a warning signal sound s w hen the
driver's door is opened (footbrake not
depressed), m ov e the selector lever to N
and ap ply the ha ndb rake.
When stop ping on gradients, eng age the
handbrake or depress the brake pedal.
To prevent overheating of the clutch, do
not increase engine speed to ensure
smooth id ling when in gear.
Switch off eng ine if stop ping for a lengthy
period, e. g. in traffic jams or at level
crossings.
Electronic ally c ontrolled driving
programmes in automatic mode
z By mea ns of delayed gear changing
(higher eng ine speeds) following a cold
start, the operating tem perature
programm e quickly and automatically
brings the ca ta ly tic converter to the
temperature required for op tim um
pollutant reduction.
z Adaptive programm es automatically
adap t gea r shifting to suit the driving
conditions, such as if the v ehicle is
towing a c aravan/trailer, has a high
pay loa d, or is being driven on inclines.
Easytronic
Win ter programme
In the ev ent of difficulties starting off on
slippery roa ds, press button T ("A" and T
are shown in the transmission display).
Easy tronic switches to automatic mode
and the vehicle sets off in second gear.
The winter program is switched off b y:
z pressing b utton T again,
z switching to Ma nual m od e,
z turning off the ignition.
In ord er to protect the Easytronic the winter
programm e a utomatica lly switches itself
off at extrem ely high c lutch tempera tures.
