Modules
Management Module (3C16630)
User-installable SNMP module that
can be added to any hub in the stack
at any time. A single module man-
ages the entire stack, supporting in-
band management from an SNMP
management station over IP or IPX,
via a telnet session, or out-of-band
using the local port, a modem, or
Serial Line Interface Protocol (SLIP)
over a remote serial connection.
Bridge Management Module
(3C16040)
User-installable module that pro-
vides local bridging, bridge manage-
ment, and hub management for all
LinkBuilder FMS II hubs. Lets you
segment the network, manage both
hub and bridge operation, and run
Spanning Tree Algorithm (STA) for
redundant links.
Bridge MicroModule (3C16060)
User-installable, unmanaged, self-
learning local bridge that slides into
the transceiver interface module
slot of a LinkBuilder FMS II hub.
Provides low-cost, simple bridging
in situations where management is
not needed.

See page 19 for details.
Power Options
Redundant Power System
(3C565047)
Provides two load-sharing bulk
power supplies fed by independent
AC lines. Either of the two supplies
can support up to four LinkBuilder
FMS II hubs or other units in a
SuperStack system.

Stacking Rules
LinkBuilder FMS II hubs can be linked
together to form a stack, or users can
mix LinkBuilder FMS II or LinkBuilder
FMS hubs in a stack. Here are some
stacking rules for common configurations.
1. Up to eight LinkBuilder FMS II hubs
can be stacked in a managed or
unmanaged configuration to form
a single logical repeater.
2. Unmanaged LinkBuilder FMS or
LinkBuilder FMS II hubs can be
placed in any position in the stack.

3. A LinkBuilder FMS II Management
Module (3C16630) or LinkBuilder FMS
Management Module (3C1603-0)
can be used to manage a stack of
LinkBuilder FMS II or LinkBuilder FMS
hubs. (Management module software
version 2.0 or greater is required.)
4. Managed LinkBuilder FMS hubs can
be mixed with LinkBuilder FMS II
hubs, providing they are in positions
1 through 4 in the stack.
5. A combination of LinkBuilder FMS II
twisted-pair, telco, and fiber hubs can
be placed in any position in a stack.
