Replacing a Battery

If your HP Server repeatedly loses its configuration or the date-time clock stops,
you should replace the battery.
WARNING
There is a danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly
installed. For your safety, never attempt to recharge,
disassemble, or burn the old battery.
Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended
by the manufacturer. Dispose of used batteries according to
the manufacturer's instructions.
1. Power down the HP Server and unplug power cord.
2. Refer to Chapter 2, "Controls, Ports, and Indicators", to power down the
Server.
3. Gain access to the system board by following the appropriate instructions for
removing the left side cover.
Refer to Chapter 3, "Opening and Closing the HP Server," to gain access to
the system board.
4. Lay the Server on it side for better access to the battery, especially when it is
released from the socket.
5. If necessary, move the SCSI cable to gain access to the battery.
See Figure 9-1.
6. Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool between the battery and
spring latch. See Figure 9-3.
7. Push the spring latch away from the battery to release it.
The spring contacts beneath the battery cause it to pop up allowing you to
grasp the battery.
8. Remove the existing battery.
